The Lord Is My Shepherd
The Hebrew phrase for "The Lord is my shepherd" is יְהוָה רֹעִי (Yəhōvāh Rōʿî). It's the first line of Psalm 23 in Hebrew. In Gen 16 when Hagar encounters God and He hears her cry, she gives him the name, God who sees me, רֳאִ֑י אֵ֣ל (El Rōʿî). Jehovah Roi or El Roi - The Shepherd is one who sees His sheep and hears His sheep. It's no wonder these two words are connected in the Hebrew language.
