Seek My Face

Updated: Feb 5

When I set out to paint this image, it came from a really intimate prayer time where I felt like the Lord presented me with a gift. In my mind, I could see a giant canvas before me and as I looked at it, I could see this brilliant smiling face looking downward. It was a large canvas and the face took up nearly every inch of it. It was a painting of what my heart told me was the Man of Sorrows, but the expression felt utterly joy-filled.

It was perhaps the first time I have ever felt a deep commissioning of a particular painting in my Spirit. What I remember was the smoothness of His skin, almost like a shining marble. And the colors were deep reds and oranges like a stunning sunset. I wasn't sure I could really do it justice but I decided to give it a go and see what I could create from this one encounter.

It turned out exactly how I had imagined it and suddenly this image became a catalyst for an entire new series of paintings. Each of these new images are coming from different ways I experience or encounter God in creation and how the paintings tell a bigger story as they come together.
