"Water to Wine" 20" x 16" Oil on Canvas
One of the most beautiful and profound moments in Jesus’ ministry is the miracle at the wedding in Cana—His first public sign, where He turned water into wine. This story in John 2:1–11 is not just a demonstration of power; it’s a revelation of His glory and a turning point for those witnessing Him. It has inspired countless hearts over centuries, and I wanted to bring that wonder to life in my painting series.
Water to Wine (20" x 16" Oil on Canvas) was one of the early pieces I created in this series. My goal was to capture the awe and sacredness of this first miracle. The first composition, painted on the right, focused on backlighting to evoke an atmosphere of wonder and divine presence. After completing it, I explored a second approach, shifting the light to soften the hands and bring out more intricate details. This version, on the left, felt more connected to the rest of the series, while still offering a unique perspective on this miraculous moment.
What fascinates me about this miracle is how it draws viewers into two different experiences: the awe of the moment and the intimate, tender gesture of Jesus’ hand at work. Each composition invites reflection on the glory of Christ revealed in everyday life and the faith that grows from witnessing His work. I may explore additional interpretations in the future, as each new perspective reveals something fresh about the story and the heart of Jesus.
John 2:11 reminds us of the lasting impact of this miracle: * “What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him
